The lovely part of LinkedIn is that it enables you to build a global network. Unrestrained by geography, and empowered to connect with like-minded professionals, and potential clients, across the globe, LinkedIn helps you build and grow a global presence, no matter where you are.
Make it multilingual
While LinkedIn certainly makes it easier to build a global network, it’s not enough to simply seek out connections in other parts of the world. You need to be able to communicate effectively with them too. That’s where you need to make it multilingual. This approach broadens your reach and demonstrates your cultural sensitivity and your commitment to engaging with diverse audiences.
Your LinkedIn profile
You dedicate yourself to creating excellent content to post on your LinkedIn profile. You have a solid content strategy, you’ve reached a good rhythm, and you feel confident that you are progressing well as you build your LinkedIn network. Did you know, though, that you can make your LinkedIn profile available in other languages? It’s quite simple to set up your LinkedIn profile so it can be read by people in other languages. Here’s how to do that:
- Log in to LinkedIn. (Don’t forget to use 2-factor authentication!)
- Navigate to your LinkedIn profile by clicking “view profile”.
- On the right-hand side of your profile, click the pencil icon where it says “Profile Language.”
- This will open a display box, and from there, you can simply click “Add Language.”
- Select the languages you’d like your LinkedIn profile to be readable in from the dropdown menu.
- Here comes the difficult part! You’ll need to fill in your profile introduction in another language. Luckily, you can use Google Translate or similar tools to simply translate your profile information and headline. Double-check to make sure your translations are accurate!
- Once you’ve completed this step, save your changes, and you’ll have a LinkedIn profile in another language.
- Big tip: LinkedIn doesn’t automatically translate your content, so take care to provide accurate and culturally appropriate translations for each section of your profile.
- You’ll then see that you have a LinkedIn profile in your default language and in the other languages you have selected.
Your second language LinkedIn profile
Now that you have a second language LinkedIn profile, you can start to share your content there too, in the language you’ve selected. This won’t be a simple copy-and-paste task, however, as you’re creating content that should be relevant to your target audience in that language. That’s where localisation is key. Effective localisation involves adapting your message to resonate with the cultural nuances and professional expectations of your target markets. Consider adjusting your tone, using region-specific examples, or highlighting different aspects of your experience that are particularly valued in certain cultures. Create your content first in your native language, and then use Google Translate or another reliable translation tool to recreate your content in your second language. Again, be sure to double-check that your translations accurately reflect what you’re trying to communicate.
Measure your progress
As you expand your multilingual presence on LinkedIn, it’s important to regularly analyse the performance of your content across different languages and regions. LinkedIn gives you key insights and analytics tools that can help you understand how your content resonates with different linguistic groups. Pay attention to engagement rates, follower growth, and other key metrics for each language to refine your strategy over time. This gives you a data-driven approach that enables you to continually optimise your multilingual content strategy, ensuring that you’re effectively reaching and engaging your global audience.
Implementing a multilingual LinkedIn strategy is a powerful way to expand your global reach and establish yourself in an international way.
