Business owners and sales people using LinkedIn know how powerful the platform is for growing a business and generating high quality leads and sales off the back of the platform.
LinkedIn has a free feature called SSI available for all of its users. What is SSI you ask?
SSI stands for Social Selling Index score. It is a scoring system between 1 and 100 on LinkedIn that measures how effective you could be at generating sales conversations based on your profile and professional brand.
SSI is based on four factors that will indicate how effective you are at using the platform.
Those four factors are:
- Establishing your professional branding
- Finding the right people
- Engaging with insights
- Building relationships
The scores are updated daily and it highlights where improvements can be made on the platform.
What is my SSI score?
You can find your SSI score by clicking here and scrolling to the “Get Your Score” link. Make sure you are logged in to LinkedIn beforehand and it will allow you to get your score immediately.
Let’s break down your SSI results page below!
First thing you’ll see is your Industry SSI rank. This number indicates how you rank against others in your industry. Make it your goal to reach the top 20% and if you happen to reach the top 5% that’s amazing!
Next up you’ll see your SSI rank. This rank compares you with everyone in your LinkedIn network (First degree connections) The next score you will see is your current SSI score.
The next score you will see is your current SSI score.
This is your overall SSI score. This score will indicate how successful you currently are at using LinkedIn. There will be 4 component scores that add up to your overall score on the left hand side.
The next breakdown is the People in your industry score. This is where LinkedIn will take your score and compare it to the average score from other people in your industry.
The last score breakdown you will see is the people in your network score. This is the same as above but this time your score will be compared to your connections in your network.
How is your SSI score calculated on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn calculates your SSI score based on data from different categories on your account such as:
- Data based on your professional brand (Your Profile and how complete it is, content you have published)
- Data based on your relationships (Your connections, acceptance rate)
- Engagement data (Shares, likes, comments, messages)
- Finding prospects data (People searches, profile views)
How do I increase my SSI score?
LinkedIn measures your social selling efforts, there are four elements that make up your SSI score and they are:
1. Establish your professional brand:
This means you need to create your profile with your customers in mind. Become a thought leader in your industry by publishing meaningful content. Make sure everything you include in your profile is aimed at showing your customers what you do, what your business is about and most importantly how you can help make their everyday lives easier. You will also need to ensure that your profile is complete and at an All-Star level. Check out our guide here: Optimise your business profile.
2. Find the right people:
Next up you can improve your score by finding the ideal people to work with. You can identify better prospects using the right search tools and advanced search features.
If you have a LinkedIn sales navigator you’ll definitely want to use the saved search feature. This will allow you to set your parameters and you won’t need to update them for future searches. Here are some benefits of using LinkedIn Sales Navigator.
3. Engage with insights:
Sharing insights using LinkedIn is easy and it’s also a great way to build lasting relationships. As you continue to grow your network ensures you continue to maintain your engagement on the platform as well. This might look like:
– Creating new posts (Make sure you are responding to any comments you get)
– Engaging with other posts by liking, commenting and or sharing content
– Watch live streams and videos
4. Build relationships:
The key in this one is to not only build relationships on the platform but to build the right relationships with the right people. Make sure you are connecting with decision makers and not only connecting but nurturing relationships long-term. Your score will increase as a reward for having the right conversations with credible professionals on the platform.
Why is the Social Selling Index (SSI) so important?
SSI is important because it helps measure someone’s social selling skills. Some stats from LinkedIn state that users with a higher SSI create 45% more sales opportunities then that of lower ranked members. It also mentions 51% of social selling leaders are more likely to reach their quotas and 78% of social sellers outsell their peers who are currently not using social media.
What is a good LinkedIn SSI score?
A SSI score of 75 or above is generally a good sign. You’ll also have the opportunity to view the average score in your industry to gauge where you sit in comparison to your competitors.
How often does LinkedIn SSI update?
The SSI index is updated daily. The great thing about SSI is it’s free and accessible to all users.
